California Spring
A mural of collaborate art pieces created by the morning and afternoon children at RHS. (44“ x 38”) painted “stained glass”.
Each child selected a flower or butterfly from books and printouts that depicted springtime in California. The processes consisted of searching for and freehand drawing from a picture of their choice, identifying and color-coding the different parts of their drawing, and finally painting their transferred picture onto the pane to create a simulation of stained glass. These processes build on eye-hand coordination, the identification of separate parts in a drawing, concentration and attentiveness to detail, and pre-math geometric understandings.
